Hanging Out by the Flatiron in a Blue Ruffle Dress for $90

Light blue ruffle DRESS by Topshop via Nordstrom ($90!). DRESS on Topshop ($90). White BOOTIES

One of my favorite parts of living in NYC is being walking distance from the Flatiron building. For years this iconic landmark has been one of my very favorite places to visit. The whole Flatiron area is so charming, and I haven't yet gotten used to the building itself.

I wore my new, long-sleeve, ruffled dress from Topshop. I actually ordered it from Nordstrom, and I've linked both shops above. It's only $90, and lots of sizes are still available!

I love a dress I can feel cute and comfortable in, and this dress is just that. You know when you're in a rush but you still want to throw on something nice? This is it!

My mom is here, and I spent nearly all day yesterday working on my final class project due Thursday. I still have so much left to finish up today, but I'm hoping we can do a few fun things before she leaves! Yesterday walked to Union Square Market and had dinner in Meatpacking. We finished up the night at Chelsea Market. She had never been before! I really think Meatpacking is one of my favorite areas of the city. It has countless shops and restaurants!

Ok, back to studying, reading and writing! I hope you have a great Tuesday! xx

Striped, Halter Pom-Pom Dress & The Best Spray Tan in NYC

Halter, pom-pom DRESS ($51). Strappy, black HEELS (under $100) & HERE (under $80).
*I've linked several affordable pom-pom dresses to the widget below*

Hey friends, happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. I definitely did!

This weekend I had a girls night with some sweet friends on Friday night, and Saturday night I went to the New York Summer Fashion Explosion show. It was so fun and so cool to see so many creative, new pieces by both upcoming and accomplished designers.

My mom also came in yesterday! It's so nice having her here even for just a short bit. She's helping me put together the last pieces of my apartment. Hopefully it won't be too long till it's all finished up.

Who doesn't love a $50 dress?? This dress is very light and flowy. It has pinkish-purple and white stripes, a pom-pom ruffle and a black, ribbon halter. It's the perfect summer outfit for your upcoming vacation. I have linked several perfect & affordable pom-pom dresses to the widget below!

I also have a spray tan from Brazil Bronze Soho. It has to be the best spray tan I have EVER received. The color was the most natural, it did not streak at all and it lasts SO long! I have definitely found my new favorite spray tan place in the city. I just have such a hard time not wanting to tan naturally, but I've become a freak about taking care of my skin!

My first grad class is finishing up this week. Just in time for the 4th! Anyone have any big plans? I'm still trying to figure out what I'll be doing. I think I'll just take the weekend easy! My second class is starting up next week so I need to get some good rest to start on the right foot!

Hoping you have a great week! xx

10 Tips on NYC Apartment Hunting

Are you moving to the Big Apple? Need help on how to find an apartment? Well, you've come to the right place.

I've had a lot of requests for a post on this so I'm finally sitting down to write it. If you've been following along, you know I've recently made the big move to New York City. Finding a place to live is a pain no matter where you move, but it seems moving to NYC is the most difficult of cities. But here's some advice to hopefully help you move go as smoothly and painlessly as possible! :)

1. Don't start looking too early but don't start too late.
Real estate in NYC is listed and gone in a flash. Say you are moving in December, it is kind of unrealistic to get your heart set on a place that's available in July. I would recommend starting to seriously search for a place one month to three weeks before your projected move-in date. This way you can be sure you will actually have a chance to get the place you are interested in.

2. Become friends with Zillow and StreetEasy.
Look at places online. Pay attention to what they are listed for and compare to other apartments in the area.

3. Look at a place in person. Don't just assume the place is nice because it has nice pictures online. Some photos are old and some are actually of other apartments in the building. Make sure you look at a place with your own two eyes before signing anything!

4. Be aware of Brokers & fees. Some are good. Some are bad. I would suggest avoiding using a Broker unless completely necessary. Just my personal opinion. I was singularly looking at apartment buildings. Most buildings have a leasing agent within. Once you start looking you will notice that some apartments say "No Fee." This means the Broker doesn't get a fee aka you don't pay him/her if you rent the building. Fee apartments mean you will be paying usually the amount of one month's rent or 15-20% of the yearly rent. BUT NO FEE apartments may tend to be a little more expensive. This is because the building is paying the Broker instead of you. This is just something to definitely take into consideration when looking at places. You may see a great place for a cheap price... but you may not want to be paying up 20% of the annual rent at one time!

5. Know where you want to live (or at least an idea of areas). Once you establish a neighborhood you will already narrow out so many choices. Looking can easily become overwhelming. It's definitely more affordable to look for apartments in outer Brooklyn, Queens and Upper Manhattan and Harlem. You just have to decide it the commute is worth it. **Note: Just because your apartment is big and cheap doesn't mean it's in a safe neighborhood. Pay attention to what's going on around you at all times.

6. Know what paperwork to bring when signing on an apartment. This is very important. Most places in Manhattan will require a credit check and last year's bank statements. Most places want you to make 40x's more than your monthly rent. This number can be combined with roommate income, too!

7. Understand guarantors. This is a big one. If you don't know, a guarantor is someone who is helping you sign on an apartment. Like I said in #5 you will need the necessary paperwork to get an apartment. With a guarantor, you will typically need proof that he/she makes 80x's the monthly rent.

8. Ask about bedbugs. Yes, they are real, and yes, you need to ask. Doesn't matter if it's a brand new building--just ask.

9. Ask about the nearest public transport. If you are like most New Yorkers you are going to be taking the Subway A LOT. Know where the nearest train stop is in accordance with your place.

10. Have fun! Apartment hunting can easily become frustrating. Don't let it! Enjoy the time in finding your perfect place in the Big Apple!

Moving to the city is one of the funnest things I've done so far. It's full of countless new opportunities. I hope you all the best success in finding a place and a smooth move in getting settled in! I'm still trying to put together my apartment, but everyday it feels more and more like home! <3

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! xx

Pink, Cold-Shoulder Dress w/ Gold Polka-Dots

Polka-dot, cold shoulder DRESS now on SALE for $45 from Topshop. Similar DRESS by Tularosa. Nude Valentino ROCKSTUD PUMPS and HERE

You know when you have those weeks with so much ahead that your head is spinning long before the storm hits? Well, this week is that kind of week for me. I have so many cool things in the works over the next few days while trying to wrap up my first graduate school class and finish strong! I need some serious energy to get through to the other side!

Ok, so this dress... Let's talk about it because I want you to get this gorgeous item in your closet before it's gone because it's going FAST! Pink with gold polka-dots, bell-sleeves and ruffles and cold shoulder--this dress really is a myriad of this seasons hottest trends. It's from Topshop and on SALE... FOR $45! So you'd really be silly to miss out on this one!

Size guide says to size one size up. I did, and it was actually a little big. So I will definitely recommend sticking to your typical size on this one. But as for a general rule, you should usually size up one size in MOST Topshop clothes. This one may just be an exception. Nevertheless, I love it, and you will see me wearing this one out any opportunity I can get!

I wore it with my Valentino Rockstud pumps. If you don't have a pair of these (or the dupes) I would highly recommend. You will be shocked at how much you find to pair them with. Yes, they are pricey, but I like to look at pieces like this as an investment. One you most definitely won't regret!

Last night the most ridiculous storm hit out of nowhere. It was such a gorgeous, sunny day. I just hopped out of the shower to get ready to meet some girlfriends for dinner when I looked out my window to see the wind blowing large pieces of cardboard and plastic across the sky. My apartment has a view of the Hudson River and the water and waves were like watching a storm roll in at the beach. Coming from the left were dark grey clouds covering everything in sight. I've seriously never seen anything like it before. I was sure it was the end of the world. If you've never seen a storm come in from 21 floors up I probably would not recommend it. This all sounds so dramatic, but I'm serious--It was terrifying!

Hopefully no more of that hitting this week! I'm going to get some homework finished up for tonight's class! xx

Off-the-Shoulder Striped Dress

OTS, striped DRESS w/ bell sleeves from Storets ($74!) Similar DRESS from Nordstrom ($49). Similar DRESS from Nordstrom. Similar TOP. White WEDGES by Jeffrey Campbell on Revolve. CHLOE purse & HERE

I just never like saying goodbye to the weekend. I had such a great time getting some much needed things done for my apartment and some great city exploring with Chase. This next week will be an extremely busy one for me so I definitely need to buckle down and make a list to make sure everything gets completed before my mom gets here next weekend!! <3

I love today's dress. This off-the-shoulder dress is striped dark blue and white and has my favorites--bell sleeves! This is such a fun dress for summer and a perfect one for the 4th of July!

I added white, Jeffrey Campbell wedges to complete the look w/ my bday Chloe bag!

In these photos I am exploring the amazing Chelsea Market. It's definitely one of my favorite places to take a stop in. There's so many great eateries and shops to satisfy anyone's taste!

I spent last weekend receiving dressers and other boxes. I finally have a place to put the rest of my clothes so I'm no longer halfway living out of a suitcase. I feel a thousand times more moved in. I'm still waiting on a few pieces to complete my apartment, but I can't wait to show you guys when it gets a little more put together! I can't tell you how nice it is to be in a place that really feels like my own and that I get full reign on decorating. It just makes everything feel so much more comfortable!

Have lots to do this week, but I'm diving in head first. My first summer class is coming to an end so I'm trying to finish strong before immediately starting the second! So that means lots of reading and assignments this week, too!

I hope you all have the best week ahead! xx

Navy Alexis Dress w/ White Lace Detail

Navy, Alexis DRESS w/ ruffles & white lace details ON SALE! Also available HERE on Revolve & HERE. Similar dress HERE & HERE. White wedge HEELS

My favorite dress of the season!! Ok, chicas, this is a look you definitely need. Alexis is one of my all time favorite brands, but it is a little too pricy for my typical clothes budget. Luckily, I found it half-off. Yes, that's right!

This dress is great for work, church, weddings, showers, rehearsal dinners, date night... you name it!

The bottom ruffles have beautiful lace details around the edge. I matched with my Jeffrey Campbell wedges, which match the design almost perfectly!

It also has a tie around the middle that you can wear however you like!

I have been having so much fun in my new apartment. I love finding new items to add and decorate with. I think George Harrison is also enjoying himself. He got a little curious of what was beyond my apartment door and tried to take a couple trips down the hallway. I can't say I blame him, but it made me a little sad because he used to have a huge yard to explore. But he seems to be enjoying not sharing my attention with any other pets.

Also, who forgot to tell me grad school had so much reading? Seems like that's all I do on my days off. I have so much left to read and do before class tonight!

I hope you all have a great Thursday! xx

White, Lace Tunic & Going to Jail

Free People white, lace TUNIC. Also available as SLEEVELESS tunic via Nordstrom. Black, skinny JEANS. Similar JEANS for under $60. Similar white BOOTIES on sale. Another pair HERE and HERE. Halston silver metallic HEELS under $90! Similar sunglasses HERE by Prada.

This top is undeniably a Free People. I actually got this exact top I'm wearing first semester of my senior year of college... nearly 3 years ago now, and I haven't slowed down on wearing it for even a second!

This top has been with me around the world even. It's been worn on countless trips and even was exact top I moved to London in August of 2015. I can confidently say this it's my favorite item in my closet. At the end of this post I'll even tell a very interesting and possibly exciting story about a memory in this top, but first, let's talk outfit details!

It's long-sleeved, but it even comes in a sleeveless version also linked! I honestly love the long-sleeve because it's still very breathable, yet it's a good piece to have year-round. I often wear it over a pair of denim shorts when it's too warm to wear pants. It also comes in many colors so why not get a few?? The more the merrier!

Quick life update, last night I took my first graduate school test. George Harrison (my cat) and I are settling in great in our actual apartment. He is actually really terrified of heights and gets really annoyed every time he looks out the window, but he seems to be getting more used to it! I'm slowly but surely adding pieces of furniture to my apartment. It seems to be coming together nicely, and I'm so excited to see the end product!!

Ok, STORYTIME!!...

So in November of my senior year of college... it was actually the Sunday after Thanksgiving, I wore this top out with a friend. He picked me up and didn't tell me where we were going, but I just went with it. We drove a tiny bit outside of town, and he pulled over and parked in front of 3 large grain silos (yes, I lived in Arkansas). He said we were going to climb them and when I asked if it would be ok, he assured me it would and that he had climbed them multiple times with people before. Going to a school in the middle-of-nowhere Arkansas, this was actually a common activity for students to do for fun.

We climbed up. Maybe were up there for 5 minutes... and you guessed it... the police showed up. A cop was checking out his car and searching around the area. We decided it would probably be a good idea to go down. The cop said it would be a $400 fine for trespassing, but also said he would let us go fine because he climbed the same grain silo when he was our age, but since he called it in already he had to run our IDs.

No big deal, right? No. When he called the dispatcher he looked up at me and said, "You know there's a warrant out for your arrest?" I said no... Well, apparently there had been an issue with a ticket I got over a YEAR before, and since then I had a warrant out for my arrest. I was literally a fugitive on the run!

So here I am, in this gorgeous top being put in the back of a cop car! A K9 unit to be exact.

I'm frantically texting my 3 roommates/best friends. To which none of them believe me and ask when I'll be home. After being taken in, handcuffed and booked, I think they finally got the picture. The friend I was with went immediately to the station to work on bailing me out.

Let me just say... IT WAS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!! I really had a blast in jail. A cop tried to set me up with his much-too-young-for-me son and showed me pictures of his grandkids. A bunch of cops gathered around to hear the story of me climbing the silo, I saw a man get brought in for public intox in his whitie-tighties and I got offered a job as the file girl for the station!

I was placed in a cell for about an hour to which I counted all 534 cell blocks. Once I was released I was greeted by my 3 roommates and got a good-bye hug from one of the cops.

I'm not saying you should go to jail... buuuutttt.... jkjkjk! I was bailed out and everything was cleared up. I'm no longer a wanted person!

That's all the story I have in me for today! But I hope you all have a happy Wednesday! xx
